Kars Province
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kars (Armenian: Ղարս or Կարս; Kurdish: Qers; Russian: Карс; Azeri: Qars) is a province of Turkey, and is located in the northeastern part of the country, next to the border with Armenia. The province was once under the administration of the Democratic Republic of Armenia as the Vanand province (with the city of Kars as its capital). However, it was ceded to Turkey by the Soviet Union in the Treaty of Kars. Under Armenia, the area of the present Kars province was administered as the Vanand province with the city of Kars as its capital.
The Ardahan and Iğdır Provinces were formerly part of the Kars Province.
