[edit] History
Karlshamn received a Royal Charter and city privileges in 1664, when King Charles X Gustav realized the strategic location near the Baltic Sea and the rivalling Danish troops there. In 1666 the town changed its name from Bodekull to Karlshamn, literally Karl's Port.
[edit] Environment
On the waterfront area there are resident swans in the ocean water. Sound levels in the city center vary from 59 to 67 dBA mostly as a result of street noise (C. Michael Hogan, ´´Environmental study of Karlshamn centrum´´, published by Lumina, July 19, 2003).
On the small island in the harbour inlet, the King had constructed a citadel to defend the city.
Good transportations are provided by the European route E22.
[edit] Buildings and structures
In Karlshamn, there is also the Gungvalamasten, a 335 metre tall guyed mast for FM- and TV-transmission, which is together with three other guyed masts of same height the tallest structure of Sweden.
