Gurgel is chairman of the CSC and president of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. He and his wife, Barbara, have seven children. His hobbies include reading, model railroading, and fishing. President Gurgel's favorite place to relax is along side the water somewhere, which may be why he would like to visit Hawaii some day. As a child, his most-watched TV show was the Wonderful World of Disney.
