Karl Möbius

Karl August Möbius (7 February 1825–26 April 1908) was a German ecologist. Möbius was born in the German town of Eilenburg and at the age of 12 was sent by his father to train as a teacher. After a period teaching in Hamburg he was appointed Professor of Zoology at the University of Kiel in 1868. Möbius remained at Kiel until his appointment in 1888 as Professor of Zoology at the University of Berlin, where he taught until he retired at the age of 80 in 1905.
