Karl Georg Christian von Staudt

Karl Georg Christian von Staudt (January 24, 1798 – June 1, 1867) was a German mathematician born in the Imperial Free City of Rothenburg, which is now called Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Germany. He studied at the University of Göttingen from 1818 to 1822 and received a doctorate from Erlangen based on his work in determining the orbit of a comet. He was the first to developed purely synthetic theory of imaginary points, lines, and planes in projective geometry.
The Von Staudt-Clausen theorem is partially named after him.
