Karimganj district

Karimganj is an administrative district in the state of Assam in India. The district headquarters are located at Karimganj. The district occupies an area of 1809 km² and has a population of 1,003,678 (as of 2001).This is a predominantly muslim district of Assam and one of those 3 districts of the state where Bengali is the most widely spoken language. Karimganj district has one sub-division. The district has 5 police station(Karimganj, Badarpur, Ramkrishna Nagar, Patharkandi, Ratabari), 3 Towns,7 C.D Blocks, 5 Circle/Tehsils, 96 goan panchayat & 7 Anchalik Panchayat.
Before Partition of India in 1947, Karimganj district was a sub-division of Greater Sylhet district which joined East Pakistan and evetually became Bangladesh in 1971.
CLIMATE OF KARIMGANJ DISTRICT
Climate of Cachar District is significant for excessive humidity and being surrounded by ranges of hills on the North, East and South of the district. Heat during summer time is unbearable because of humidity. The air is surcharged with moisture and rainfall is extremely heavy. The winter season is not so cold like other states of India. The actual rainy season starts from May and remains up to October.
LITERACY The district's litaracy rate is 55.78%. The major language spoken here is Bengali.
