Karen Farbridge

Karen Farbridge is mayor-elect and a former city councillor of the city of Guelph, Ontario.
She was just elected as mayor in the 2006 municipal election against incumbent mayor Kate Quarrie, who had defeated Farbridge in the 2003 election.
Farbridge was first elected to Guelph City Council in 1994, representing Ward 1. In 2000 she became the city's first-ever woman mayor.
Farbridge graduated with an M.Sc (1985) and Ph.D (1989) in animal physiology from the University of Guelph, and subsequently became director of the Ontario Public Interest Research Group's Guelph office after having volunteered there for several years as a student.
In the 2006 municipal election, Farbridge defeated Quarrie and regained the mayor's chair.
