Karate England

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karate England (2005) Ltd is the Official Governing Body for the Sport of Karate within England and as such is the only body recognised by SportEngland.

Karate England is both ambitious (bringing together the huge numbers of different schools of karate) and controversial (leading many practitioners to bemoan the fact that the fighting art of karate appears to be treated as less important than the sporting aspect). Still in its teething stages, Karate England has suffered a number of setbacks (including the loss of several committee members and the departure of the JKA from membership) but remains confident that the promotion of sport-karate is a worthwhile endeavour which will benefit British karate and sport as a whole.

[edit] Controversy

Recently a series of directors of Karate England have resigned and the company has been criticised for its secretive approach to running the sport karate establishment. In particular, Karate England have chosen not to address the concerns of British karateka regarding the spending of membership fees, instead continually promising to hold emergency meetings and releasing non-commital minutes of these gatherings.

Karate England New Official Website

A statement on the new official Karate England website states:

"The board of Karate England are pleased to announce the re-launch of our website to enable a regular flow of current, topical news and information to be available to all Karate England members. This re-launch is part of a complete overhaul of Karate England that is currently underway.

We sincerely hope that this will go a long way to countering the rumours, innuendo and misinformation that has been circulating of late.

The board asks for your understanding and indulgence over the next few weeks as the administration has been downsized and the 2 office staff are attempting to clear the backlog of work as soon as possible.

We welcome any queries you may have and we can be contacted through the Bisham Abbey office or via the website.

For and on behalf of the Board of Karate England,

Victor Charles President of Karate England"
