Kapingamarangi

Kapingamarangi is an atoll in the Federated States of Micronesia. It is located in the south of the country. Kapingamarangi has a population of about 700 inhabitants. The main industry is fishing. Most Kapingamarangians live on Pohnpei. Their language is Polynesian.

The Kapingamarangans refer to themselves as "Kirinese" and are best know for their handicrafts. The men can all carve and the women can weave. They typically carve various trinkets out of the flesh of an ivory nut. They are also well known for their shark carvings, wall hangings, mobiles, woven mats, shell jewelry and turtle shaped ukeleles.
