Kaori

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kaori is a Japanese given name for females. See Japanese name. Its meaning depends on how it is written. Native English speakers have a hard time pronouncing this name properly since it has a short "o" after a short "a". It is correctly pronounced like "kah-oh-ree". It is commonly written as:

  • 香/薫 — "perfume / fragrance"
  • 香織 — "perfumed fabric" or "woven fragrance"
  • 佳織 — "quality fabric"
  • かおり — no specific meaning indicated, can be any of the above
  • かをり/かほり — same as above but written in a more classical form, pronounced the same way but sometimes romanized as kawori and kahori respectively.

A somewhat similar name, in terms of both pronunciation and meaning, is Kaoru. Unlike Kaori, it can be used for both sexes.
