Kansas Republican Party

The Kansas Republican Party is the Kansas organization of the national Republican Party. One Republican U.S. President, Dwight Eisenhower and two Republican presidential nominees, Alf Landon and Robert Dole came from Kansas.
The current Chairman of the Kansas Republican Party is Tim Shallenburger. Prior to being elected Chairman, Shallenburger was Kansas State Treasurer and Speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives. In 2002, Shallenburger was the GOP nominee for Governor. He was defeated by Democratic candidate Kathleen Sebelius.
The current Executive Director is African-American Evangelical minister Ron Freeman.
The Kansas Republican Party is known for its vicious fights between moderate and conservative factions; Shallenburger and Freeman represent the conservative wing. They were elected in 2003, ending six years of moderate leadership. The moderate leaders were Chairman Dennis Jones, Vice-Chairman Pat Ranson and Executive Director Scott Poor.
