Kanpumasatsu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kanpumasatsu (乾布摩擦[かんぷまさつ])is (as the kanji suggests) the activity of rubbing your body with a dry cloth. In Japan, it is thought to strengthen or warm up your skin, and therefore to prevent from illness associated with winter such as cold. It is often done in winter, along with physical activities like running; by pupils/students in schools and kindergarten. As it is associated with winter, it is often misspelt as kanpūmasatsu (寒風摩擦[かんぷうまさつ]), meaning cold wind rubbing.
