Kanotix, also referred to as KANOTIX, is a Linux distribution LiveCD based on Debian unstable (and to a lesser degree Knoppix) with advanced hardware detection. It can run from a CD-ROM drive without using a hard disk.
Kanotix uses KDE as the default desktop environment. GNOME and other window managers can be downloaded using APT.
Kanotix can be installed to the hard disk using the Knoppix installer, which, depending on optical drive, hard disk and processor speed, can take around 20 minutes.
Kanotix's mascot is a Fangtooth.[1]
[edit] Differences from Knoppix
- Kanotix fully supports installation to the hard disk[2]. Knoppix allows installation, but does not recommend it, and upgrading the system using apt-get may cause problems. [3]
- Kanotix has an improved hardware detection system.
