Kannazuki

Kannazuki 神無月 is a traditional name for October in Japanese.
The kanji translates literally as "the month where there are no gods." Per Shinto lore, it was said that as many as 8 million gods would leave from their respective shrines in Japan and congregate annually at Izumo Taisha. There, the month would be known as Kamiarizuki (神有月 or 神在月), "the month where the gods are present." The gods would discuss matters such as human marriages and matchmaking.
Up until Heian Period 1873, November overlapped with the 10th month of the lunar calendar. After adaptation of the Gregorian calendar, October became generally accepted as the godless month.
