Masayoshi began his day's as a minor retainer under the famed Oda Nobunaga during the Sengoku period to the Azuchi-Momoyama period of the 16th century.. After Nobunaga's death in 1582, Masayoshi went on to serve under Oda Nobukatsu. After the year of 1590, Masayoshi was dismissed from the army of Nobukatsu, and went to serve under Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Afterwards, Masayoshi received some land of the Mino Province. During 1593, Masayoshi then served under Toyotomi Hidetsugu. After the year of 1600, Masayoshi managed to get on the good side of the Tokugawa, and served under Tokugawa Yoshinao following the Edo period of the 17th century. One of the greatest things remember of Masayoshi was that he was present for the fall of the Asakura of Echizen, during the year of 1573, under the services of Nobunaga. Masayoshi was also known for his persistence. It is known that Masayoshi pursued a single horsmen from the region of Toneyama, into the mountains, where he slew him and brought back his head. However, his feet became dyed red with the mountain soil due to him losing his shoes when returning from the mountains. When Nobunaga saw this, he gave Masayoshi un-heeled Japanese sandals. Even saying: "I hadn’t thought that something such as this would come in handy at a time like this."
