[edit] Story

The female version of the main character of InuYasha: Secret of the Cursed Mask. She lives in the modern era of Japan and lives at the Kururugi Shrine, where her family is holding the Doll Festival, a ritual of placing a name in a wooden doll painted with the symbol of the Shikigami (a red star inside a circle). As the dolls are burned, the legend says that you will be able to see the person whose name you put inside. Since she is late for the festival, her father sends her to the store house to retrieve more talismans. A symbol appears on the floor and she falls through it, arriving in the Sengoku era.

After getting chased by a demon and then unwittingly destroying it with unawakened Shikigami powers within her, she meets Inuyasha and Myoga, who take her to Kaede's village where she, along with Kagome Higurashi and Shippo are waiting. Kagome attempts to take her back to the modern age with the Bone-Eater's Well, the gateway Kagome uses to move between the ages, but finds it does not work. Stuck in the past until they can find a way to send her back, Kaname joins Inuyasha and Kagome on their adventures.

While traveling, they run into a new enemy: Utsugi, a "hitogata" (clay doll demon) who looks very similar to Kururugi and seems able to use the Shikigami. Her goal is the take her descendant Kururugi's soul and use it along with the power of Shikigami to become fully human. With help from a blind old priest named Kakaju, Kururugi awakens the spiritual power of Shikigami within her and uses it to aid InuYasha and her party in their quest.

After a long-fought battle, and risking their lives many times, Naraku is seemingly defeated by the combined efforts of Kururugi and the others. However, after time passes, Kururugi decides to leave Kaede's Village and find Utsugi — the only one who could seen her back to the modern era. Kakuju is killed while traveling with them, and uses his remaining moments of life to transfer his soul into an amulet and protect Kururugi when Utsugi tries to take her soul.

Kururugi then confronts Utsugi, who is taken over by Naraku for Utsugi's Shikigami powers. With Utsugi's help and after a very difficult battle, Naraku is once again defeated. Utsugi is released, but dies soon after, for Kakuju's soul in the amulet merges with her instead of Kururugi's.

With Utsugi's death, Kururugi returns to the modern era at the point where she left.

    • Great River Blessing: Its another of Kaname's healing moves but it heals all of his team like it rains.

[edit] Relationships

  • Inuyasha: Kaname developers feelings for him if certain choices are made. In other endings they're just friends.
  • Kagome: Kaname ends up becoming good friends with her.
  • Shippo: Kaname ends up becoming good friends with him.
  • Miroku: Kaname ends up becoming good friends with Miroku. Not surprisingly, he asks Kaname if she would bear his children. In one ending, she developed feelings for him.
  • Sango: Sango is jealous of Miroku's attention towards Kaname(the pervert!), but eventually warms up after Kaname helps save Kohaku. They end up friends in every ending.
  • Kirara: Nothing vaguely important is mentioned, other than she's Sango's pet.
  • Sesshomaru: Kaname is on good terms, but not necessarily friends with Sesshomaru(she helped save Rin, earning his trust). In the secret ending(only available after completing the game) there are vague hints of Kaname having feelings for him(and vice versa), but it is left to the imagination.
  • Jaken: Kaname is not on good terms with Jaken, but he tolerates her because of Sesshomaru.
  • Rin: Rin looks up to Kaname as a big sister(actually calling her such). Kaname interacts with Rin on several occasions.
  • Kikyo: Kaname runs into Kikyo after running away from the group. Kikyo unwillingly(maybe) saves Kaname and they develop a mutual respect(in the course of... ten minutes).
  • Koga: Kaname and Koga get off to a rough start(he tries to kill her). Koga stays hostile towards her throughout his appearance in the game, even after the truth is revealed.
  • Kagura: There is no set relationship, but Kagura does 'kidnap' Kaname during an encounter with Utsugi. Eventually Kagura is killed by Naraku after helping Kaname and the group defeat an enemy.
  • Kanna: There is no set relationship, Kanna attempts to capture Kaname's soul on one occasion and points out one of Naraku's in-game incarnation.
  • Kohaku: Kohaku attempts to capture Kaname several times. She views him as a friend when they first meet, and ultimately helps Sango save him(patching up their relationship).
  • Naraku: Naraku is Kaname's foe and partially the reason she was dragged into the past.
  • Kaede: No real relationship. She seems to be a mentor for a short period of time.
  • Utsugi: Kaname is not Utsugi's descendant, but the descendant of the woman whom Utsugi was made in likeness of.
  • Kakuju: Kaname is his descendant, it is stated towards the end of the game that he is her 'great great-grandfather'. She calls him grandfather.

It's apparent that Kaname holds some sort of affection for all the (main)characters she interacts with, whether it be respect, admiration, or love.

[edit] Sesshomaru Ending

Kaname gets a special ending in InuYasha: Secret of the Cursed Mask by getting all of the Sesshomaru special scenes and having no Interval Events with any characters that means saying no to the Interval Events that you can say it to.
