[edit] History

Kampfar was formed by Dolk in 1994 when he departed from his former band, Mock. Dolk wrote the bass for the song Kampfar and then needed someone to record the guitar. Then Thomas joined the band and together they wrote Hymne. Following the release of Fra Underverdenen. Kampfar began a period of inactivity, and it was not until Dolk joined the band Gruesome and met the bass player Jon that Kampfar regained its momentum. Jon soon became a permanent member of the band and the threesome began rehearsing. The drummer II13 joined the band in middle of 2003, and then the band began to compose new material and finally accepted one of the numerous offers to play live. The band made their first appearance at the Moshfest festival in Halden, not far from their hometown Fredrikstad. Their latest release, Kvass was recorded between November 2005 and January 2006, together with producer Rune Jørgensen, in Silvertone Studio in Gamle Fredrikstad.

The music of Kampfar is inspired in the norse mythology, folklor and nature. Their music is a mix of raw Black Metal and Pagan Metal embossed with traditional folkloric influences. The whole reason why Kampfar has their unique sound is because of the mix between Dolk's black metal roots, and Thomas' classical and folkish roots.
