The railway still exists as part of the North Auckland Line. Situated in this tiny settlement is five schools (two high schools, one intermediate school and two primary schools). Kamo High School is the main high school, with over 1,200 students. Kamo has one main street, and about 20,000 residents. All Blacks Bunny Finlayson, Bevan Holmes and Ian Jones played for Kamo Rugby Club as did notable Auckland Blues player Justin Collins and Auckland Blues coach Peter Sloane.
