Kambarasam

Ramayana was an Hindu epic which herofies Hindu/Aryan god Rama; Kambar, an ancient Tamil poet has translated it into a Tamil version named Kambaramayanam.
According to the Ramayana, Rama is a hero and the Ravana is a villain.
Certain historians - mainly those associated with the Dravidan Movement - have interpreted that Rama was an Aryan and Ravana was a Dravidian. However, the Ramayana describes Rama as a dark-skinned person, and Ravana as a Brahmin who is a staunch devotee of lord Shiva. Therefore, this line of thinking appears to be more designed to denigrate a Hindu epic rather than to analyze facts.
As part of the politically motivated attack on Hindu religion, Annadurai wrote a book called Kambarasam. Kambarasam selects passages from the Tamil classic, Kamabaramayanam, mostly out of context, in an effort to prove that Kamban, and the characters in his epic were sexual perverts. Kambarasam reached a new low point in Dravidian propaganda, and is no longer mentioned by Dravidian movement leaders.
