[edit] Showa series

In Sogell Island, mante the size of an adult human lived. Later, a horrible radioactive accident that occurred due to a weather experiment mutated the insects into even larger proportions. The creatures, now the size of a building became known as Kamacuras. Three Kamacurae found an egg and cracked it open to find a small, infant reptilian creature. As the huge insects prepared to close in and kill the helpless creature, Godzilla himself arrived on the scene and attacked. Godzilla slew two of the Kamacurae and the last Kamacuras was slain by the gargantuan spider, Kumonga. However, there were remaining creatures that retreated to Monster Island where they have lived ever since.

[edit] Millennium series

In the 2004 film, Godzilla: Final Wars, Kamacuras made an appearance as one of the many controlled monsters of a race of superior extraterrestrial beings known as the Xilians. It attacks Paris, France and is teleported away by an enormous UFO to make it seem as if the Xilians eliminated the kaijus. Eventually, it is discovered that the Xilians were controlling the kaijus and Kamacuras and the rest of the other monsters are returned to finish their rampages. When Godzilla begins to battle the monsters, he fights Kamacuras in Japan and wins by throwing the creature onto an electrical power conductor. There is also something special about Kamacuras in this movie, because it can blend in with the surrounding environment like a chameleon does.

[edit] Trivia

The English dub of Son of Godzilla names the Kamacuras as "Gimantis", a portmanteau of "giant" and "mantis".
