Kalihiwai is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kauaʻi County, Hawaiʻi, United States. The population was 717 at the 2000 census.

Kalihiwai is located at 22°12′59″N, 159°25′7″W (22.216269, -159.418705)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 19.2 km² (7.4 mi²). 16.3 km² (6.3 mi²) of it is land and 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²) of it (14.84%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 717 people, 280 households, and 182 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 43.9/km² (113.7/mi²). There were 394 housing units at an average density of 24.1/km² (62.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 72.11% White, 0.28% African American, 10.32% Asian, 4.04% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 12.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.35% of the population.

There were 280 households out of which 36.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.4% were married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 33.8% from 45 to 64, and 6.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 106.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $42,083, and the median income for a family was $50,536. Males had a median income of $37,143 versus $30,125 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $37,062. About 14.0% of families and 13.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.8% of those under age 18 and 25.0% of those age 65 or over.
