Kalaniyot

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kalaniyot (Hebrew for anemones) is a very famous Israeli song that dates from the beginning of the state of Israel.

The song has poetic lyrics, written by Nathan Alterman, that describe how, in a dream, a little girl gathers anemones in a basket at night, which she then brings to her mother.

The music of the song was written by Moshe Vilensky and it is one of his most famous melodies.

The singer Shoshana Damari is closely associated with, and popularised, this song. It was reportedly sung to her by family and friends when she was on her death bed. [1][2].

There is also an Israeli dance group that is called kalaniyot.
