Kalam valley

Kalam valley is situated in the upper reaches of Swat, in the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan. It is a beautiful place with lush green pastures and full of natural vegetation. Kalam is a paradise on earth. It is also called the "Switzerland of the East".

The people of Kalam are called Kalami or Kohistani. They have their own separate history.

Although they are largely illiterate,they are famous for their braveness and hospitality. They speak Kohistani. Most of them are reluctant to donate blood. They will pay for blood in thousands but they will never bleed. They have very close relations with the Swati people to the south.
