I think you should have checked before you let it loose on the GPMG - it has n't diffrentiated between GPMG as a concept and the British Army specific GPMG the L7 GPMG GraemeLeggett 09:20, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

I tried to be as careful as possible as the wikipedia is not quite filled up yet (i.e. .455 Webley redirects to 11 mm etc.) but all of the GPMG links you are referring too pointed to a redirect page for GPMG that pointed to "General purpose machine gun" I looked back through the edits this AM and found where you pointed some of them back or dewikied them. Hi, please don't use your bot to bypass redirects. One of the advantages of redirects is that the Wikicode looks clearer and becomes a lighter markup, the result is it's easier to read and is slightly less offputting for newbies to see [[World War 2]] than [[World War II|World War 2]]. — Matt Crypto 12:25, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

There appeared to be a large number of redirect links referring to World War II. I know that a number of people have differing opinions on how best to name WWII or World War 2 or World War II. I was just trying to clean up some of the redirecting links without changing the grammatical content of the page being edited. The question I have is: Is it better to have a bypass link going to the correct page, avoiding a redirect page hit, or having a new editor use their preferred name for a subject and then use (or create) a redirect page to reach the page intended? I have reviewed the changed made earlier today regarding Estate (disambiguation). Within the context supplied by the bot, I thought after my changes that they linked to the correct place. After further (in-depth) review of the articles there were a few that needed changes from Estate (land) -> Estate (area) and Estate (land) -> Estate (house). I reverted a couple of others as the article was ambiguous regarding land or house. I apologize for any changes made that pointed to the wrong definition of Estate.   • Thanks. Do you really feel the two need to be separated anyway. In legal terms estate refers to any property concrete of liquid owned by an individual. In land terms an estate is any amount of land owned by an individual, albeit often attached to the individuals residence. Giano | talk 08:51, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
  • That is a good question. I know the Disambiguation project page listed Estate as one of the topics to be disabiguated into separate catagories, however some of the content on the pages (e.g. Estate (land), Estate (house)) are very similar. It is just one of those topics that was divided up some time ago and some time from now someone will suggest merging them.

Hello,

I had a general questions. I no source tagged a bunch of images from the Wikipedia:Untagged images page. Today I noticed from my watch list that you nsd tagged them. Did I tag them wrong? What is the difference between no source and nsd and when should one be used in preference to the other. --Kaiserb 18:33, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

I created {{nsd}} this morning as a way of thinning out CAT:NS. In terms of policy, there's no difference between {{nsd}} and {{no source}}. The difference is the categories that the template puts the image in. For example, {{no source|December 5}} puts the image in Category:Images with unknown source, but {{nsd|December 5}} puts the image in Category:Images with unknown source: December 5. Any admin clearing out CAT:NS will know for certain that images in the latter category can be deleted after December 12, whereas in the former category they'd have to go through all the individual images looking for ones that could be deleted.
The short version: nsd makes things slightly easier for admins on patrol. Ingoolemo talk 18:38, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

I tried this and received an undefined variable error. Is there maybe one more step I am missing?

Ahhh. Your version of solve_disambiguation.py is pretty old. I'm running v 1.193 2005/11/17 19:34:22, you are running v 1.185 2005/08/14 09:19:10. RussBlau only implemented this new edit summary feature when I asked him in October. I recommend you use CVS, that way it only take two mouse clicks to update. I have written some easier-to-understand CVS installation instructions (only for Windows though) in my user space if you are interested. However, I haven't tested them out, so you may need to ask me a few things, which I always welcome. --Commander Keane 03:15, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Having a look at the results you provided, and your Babel, it's apparent that you have considerable computer skills, sorry if I was a little condescending or whatever, of course you know how to use CVS. Anyway, maybe you can help me out. RussBlau said that I have to have the pywikipediabot and python in the same PATH. This means they have to be in the same directory right? Just wondering, because although it works fine, I have a very busy directory with all the stuff in it.--Commander Keane 03:29, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Are you using Windows, Mac or Linux? If you are using Windows ?? you can install Python and pywiki on the C:\ so your directory structure looks like this:

Hi, On your question on my talk page, the answer is anything you feel competent to do or change is more than welcome. I noticed that you did some stugg on woodcarving, the Woodcarving article is pretty pathetic, having been copied from the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica. Other than that, take a look at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Woodworking and just dive in into anything that interests you. Also, you can use that page to describe out to anything that you feel needs doing, or anything you need help with. Feel absolutely free to edit that page too. You might also want to got to the Category:Woodworking page and its sub-category pages and take a look at the articles there. Change or add to anything you think is wrong or needs doing. I just reverted your edits here, you may need to reapply what you were doing. The reason for the reversion is that Wikipedia seems to have some problems at the moment where it is ending up duplicating the content of articles and inserting the edit summaries of edits between the versions. Your bot seems to be alphabetizing categories, but the edit message is "AWB Assisted removing excess links per the Manual of style". This is confusing. Mirror Vax 22:34, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi,

We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.

Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.

Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.
