[edit] Background

More than a century ago, missionaries of the Canadian Baptist Mission (CBM) pioneered Gospel work in coastal Andhra Pradesh from the district of Krishna in the south through the district of Srikakulam in the north apart from tribal areas in southern Orissa. With the independence of India, the Indian leadership began the Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars as the successor of the CBM in India.

Rev. David was raised in the Church environment in the mission area of the Canadian Baptist Mission[2] in Krishna District in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Discipline and obedience were natural to him.

[edit] Divinity

Accepting the 'call', the young David left for Serampore College, West Bengal to pursue Bachelor of Divinity through the Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars, his parent Church. After returning, his Church posted him to a rural congregation which he ministered.

[edit] Further Studies

On sponsorship from the Seminary Council of the Baptist Theological Seminary, Rev. David proceeded again to Serampore College to pursue Master of Theology in New Testament. This was around 1964. Juniors pursuing Bachelor of Divinity were amazed at his studiousness and interest in the scriptures thereby setting models for others to emulate.

[edit] Biblical Teacher

Successful studies led to the Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars (CBCNC), his parent Church, to assign him a teaching task at the newly created Andhra Christian Theological College - an ecumenical seminary located in the river town of Rajahmundry. Later, the Seminary shifted to Secunderabad.

[edit] Further Studies

With interest to pursue research in New Testament, the Board of Governors of ACTC granted him study leave on sponsorship from his parent Church - CBCNC. Then, Rev. David proceeded to Scotland to pursue Ph.D. in New Testament in the University of Edinburgh. His research and scholarly abilities were put to test and soon Rev. David emerged out of the University in flying colours.

[edit] Return to ACTC

Once back at ACTC, Dr. David began delivering quality Biblical education to his pupils. With the end of two terms of Principalship of Rev. Dr. P. Victor Premasagar, Rev. Dr. K. David became the Principal[3].

Tranquility and calm prevailed throughout his tenure. Daunting administrative tasks were resolved with ease. Never once did he let know others of the travails of running a Seminary.

Service before self was put into practise by this simple vegetarian-loving Pastor. Qualities of simplicity, honesty, discipline, obedience and frugality were seen in him. Passing out students at ACTC readily recall the ever-smiling Dr. David.

[edit] New Testament Scholar

With Dr. David's expertise in the New Testament, he was invited to many fora. The National Biblical, Catechetical and Liturgical Centre (NBCLC)[4], Bangalore invited him along with Rev. Dr. Victor Premasagar for taking up scholarly talks.

[edit] Bible Translator

Rev. David was involved in the common language translation programme of the Bible Society of India - Andhra Pradesh Auxiliary. Visits to the Bible House on Rashtrapathi Road were frequent. Portions of the New Testament were translated from the Greek New Testament into modern Telugu.

Along with his colleagues in ACTC belonging to CBCNC, Dr.David used to proceed to Kakinada to undertake teaching assignments in the Baptist Theological Seminary (BTS) then under the Principalship of Rev. S.E. Krupa Rao. The BTS used to offer Graduate of Theology (G.Th.) programmes for 10th standard passed students.
