Hello Justin Foote and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!

[edit] Song titles

Heh, I wouldn't worry too much about it, I was probably being a little too quick off the draw anyway. Have you checked out Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums? It might be worth a perusal if you haven't. (That's the first time I've ever been mistaken for a software glitch!) - 18:41, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC) Lee (talk)

[edit] Lineage

Are you the chief archivist mentioned in Time Enough for Love who brought the Foundation's record to Tertius? Or perhaps his progenitor? Inquiring minds want to know ;-) --Uncle Ed 21:36, 2 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Glad I could help. --Ðåñηÿßôý | Talk 03:08, 10 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] albumcover

Just a note, make sure you use albumcover instead of fairuse. The latter still works, but the first one fits better for album covers. -- -- WB 10:07, Mar 28, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Creating Articles w/ Categories

Good work creating new articles. When you create things, it helps tremendously to assign them to an accurate category (see WP:CG for info). If you're really not sure about categories, at least assign your new articles a stub category (see WP:SC for info). By assigning a category, you help make sure your new articles don't get lost as 'orphans' that are not associated with related topics. Feco

Put a few of the articles and categories you're having problems with on my Talk page. In my experience, adding Category:Finance (note the extra colon before category here... this keeps the tag from applying to THIS talk page, so the link is valid w/out dumping your talk page into the Finance category) to an article will lead to it showing up in the category within a few minutes. Adding sub-categories to other categories generally takes a little longer. One thing to be aware of... category names are very sensitive... case, spacing, etc. must exactly match the category you've created. Feco 00:01, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright Policy

Good work creating new articles and contributing to exisiting ones. When you make contributions, be careful that you don't include copyrighted material. Copyright rules are complicated, so take some time to review Wikipedia:Copyrights. A good general rule is that most things on the internet are already copyrighted by someone else, so they cannot be contributed to wikipedia. Again, content from webpages is usually copyrighted and cannot be added to wiki. Keep up the good work, and feel free to contact me with questions. Feco

[edit] Downtime

Thanks for your work on Downtime (Doctor Who). I've reformatted and cleaned it up a bit to put it more in line with the style of the other articles we have. I hope you will consider joining us at Wikipedia:WikiProject Doctor Who if you haven't already, and we look forward to more contributions from you. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 01:31, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

I saw your question at WP:VPP and I have given a general reply there: if you want an opinion about a particular artist or work, feel free to leave a note on my talk page and I will see what I can do. Physchim62 (talk) 12:53, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Oedipus Rex.jpg

Hi Justin, thanks for your message on my discussion page on de-Wikipedia. The picture is definitely not public domain in Germany. But you're right, for en-Wikipedia, US laws apply: According to [1], it might fall under the condition of "Published in a language other than English and without subsequent republication with a copyright notice", so it could be PD-US. --Svencb 11:04, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Images of Giorgio de Chirico

Hello. Please note that to apply for PD-US, material needs to have been first published in the US before 1923. I can not see that applying to the images of Giorgio de Chirico. For reference, see Public_domain#United_States_law / Fred-Chess 07:17, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

From WP:PD I also read "the 1923 date does not apply to unpublished works." WP:PD#Published_vs._unpublished_works. So it is essential to find out when the work was first published. Paintings are usually not published. / Fred-Chess 06:08, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Melancholy&MysteryofaStreet.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Melancholy&MysteryofaStreet.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use GFDL to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as db-unksource.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

[edit] Linking dates

Hi. I noticed you linked the date (May 2002) on The Time of the Daleks. Dates like this should not be linked: months should not be linked unless the article is talking about the month itself, e.g. a mention that August was named after Augustus Caesar. Years should only be linked if there is a specific prominence (e.g., a person's birth year).

Dates should be wikilinked when they are of the format Day Month Year, Month Day Year or Day Month (without a year), in which case the day and month should be linked together as shown. This allows the system to see that it is a date and to format it according to the reader's preferences as specified in the "my preferences" link at the top of the page. However, if there is no day specified, the month should not be linked alone. For more details, see WP:DATES. Thanks. —Whouk (talk) 08:47, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

It's a bit subjective. There is a case for saying that a year of release could be worth linking, but it would be the only year on the page that would. I tend towards not linking as I don't think it adds any value, but it's a matter of opinion. —Whouk (talk) 16:53, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Executive producer on Big Finish pages

Hey, Justin. I just noticed that you've added an executive producer credit on some of the Big Finish pages that didn't have one listed. However, Jac Rayner isn't listed as executive producer in any stories after The Next Life. (She may still be serving in that capacity, but she's not listed in the liner notes any more.) —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 01:33, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Mark Isham

This category was previously deleted on 17 February 2006 after a CfD process, as unneeded (a category for a single article), and thus its recreation has been speedily deleted. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:43, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Metaphysical paintings

Hi! Thanks a lot for your addings to Giorgio De Chirico, which is my favourite painter. Just some notes:

 1. De Chirico had nothing of Greek, and I removed this nationality reference from all the articles.
 2. In the categories, add the title of the painting so it will be in alphabetical order in the cat. page (see what I did in The Disquieting Muse, for example).
 3. You should add the "thumb" mark to all images, as per Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Better, if you have data, you could use the painting template that you can find used in Cardsharps or Gare Montparnasse (The Melancholy of Departure).

Ciao and good work!!!--Attilios 09:17, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Dancing Columns.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Dancing Columns.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. JeremyA 00:07, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
