[edit] Introduction
The Jurmo class landing craft is a type of vessel in use by the Finnish Navy.
Also known as Watercat M12 designed by Marine Alutech.
The Jurmo was the result of modernization in the Finnish Navy in the late 90's. It was designed to replace the existing Meriuisko class landing craft. Its main purpose is landing and transportation operations for the Finnish Marines (Rannikkojääkärit would more appropriately translate to Coastal Jaegers, as the finnish word for marines means naval infantry) in all weather conditions. It has excellent manoeuvrability and can come to a full stop in only one ship's length from top speed. Low draft makes it ideal for amphibious assault even in shallow waters.
