Junta Grande

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Junta Grande was the executive government in Argentina, created by the First Junta.

[edit] Origin

The first goal of the Primera Junta created on May 25, 1810 during the May Revolution was to expand political power to the whole Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata.

The reactions from the cities from the interior provinces of the country weren't homogeneous. Thus in order to avoid realistas (people loyal to the Spanish Crown) taking political advantage of such situation, on May 27 all the country's town halls (Spanish: cabildos) were sent a message to send their representatives to join the new government.

On December of the same year, most delegates had already arrived and asked for their incorporation.

Finally, on December 18, 1810, the Junta Grande was constituted, and governed until 1812, when it was replaced by the First Triumvirate.
