Junkie

A junkie (or junky) is a heroin addict. The word has also come to be used to describe addicts in general. People enthusiastic about a given thing sometimes call themselves junkies (as in the term "science fiction junkie" or "political junkie").

Heroin has the street name "junk", which would offer an explanation of the word "junkie".
