Junius Spencer Morgan

Junius Spencer Morgan (1813 – 1890) was an American banker and financier, born at West Springfield, Mass. (now Holyoke, Massachusetts).
From 1854, he was partner, with George Peabody, in the English banking house of George Peabody & Co. Ten years later, he succeeded Peabody as head of the firm and changed its name to J. S. Morgan & Co. He was also the father of the more famous John Pierpont Morgan.
In 1836, he married John Pierpont's daughter, Juliet. From about 1836 to 1853, he was in the dry-goods business. He contributed money to Trinity College, Hartford. At his death, he left a fortune estimated at about $10,000,000.
