Junior World Series

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Junior World Series was the name given to a Minor League Baseball post-season inter-league championship, modeled on the World Series of Major League Baseball. It was originally called the Little World Series and also acquired other official names at different times.

This Series obviously has no connection with the Little League World Series, which is also sometimes called the "Junior" World Series due to its participants being children.

The various incarnations of the Junior World Series were played for most of the years of the 20th century, off and on depending on the fortunes of the various leagues involved. Most often it was held between the champions of the International League and the American Association. Calling it the minor league World Series was perhaps a bit pretentious, as it most often left out the just-as-strong-if-not-stronger minor circuit called the Pacific Coast League. From 1998 to 2000, the Triple-A World Series pitted the IL and Pacific Coast League champs.
