Jumble
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jumble is a word puzzle where you are given a set of letters which, when arranged in the correct order, give the un-jumbled word. A simple example would be the set of letters "lbujme," which can then be ordered to spell "jumble".
These puzzles are often found in newspapers, and have four base Jumbles. Once these base Jumbles are solved, a player uses the circled letters of each base Jumble word to obtain a new set of letters. This set of letters will then complete a phrase or sentence. The correct answer usually involves some sort of visual or verbal pun, relating to an illustration and its caption published with the puzzle.
Skills similar to solving the Jumble are also used when playing Scrabble. In Scrabble, the player has seven letter tiles, and uses these tiles to create words on the playing surface. Players can create words of any length, as long as one letter intersects with a preexisting word on the board.
Many websites have a version of the Jumble, and there are also online Jumble solvers available.
TextTwist is a popular game from GameHouse similar to Jumble (also available online at Big Fish Games Yahoo, MSN and GameHouse or as a download Super TextTwist [1] [2]). Players form words from a set of six or seven scrambled letters, and must find at least one word using all the letters to get to the next round. Additional points are granted for words using at least three letters. TextTwist can be played in either timed or untimed mode.
