Julian Castro

Julián Castro is a Mexican-American politician from San Antonio, Texas. Castro served on the San Antonio City Council from 2001 to 2005, where he established himself as a leader on issues of economic development, education, and environmental protection.. In June of 2005, Castro was narrowly defeated by Judge Phil Hardberger in a run-off election for Mayor of San Antonio, in which Castro won almost 49 percent of the vote, despite being outspent by his millionaire opponent by a 2 to 1 margin. Castro actually garnered roughly 6,000 more votes than Hardberger on election day, though Hardberger's margin of victory in the early vote surpassed this margin.
Julian, a native of San Antonio, is a graduate of Stanford and Harvard Law School.
