Julian Alsop (born May 28, 1973) is a footballer with the non-league team Newport County who currently play in the Conference South division of the English football league system.
He signed for Newport County in July 2006 after being released from his contract at Conference National side Forest Green Rovers. Nicknamed "Jools", Alsop is well known for his height and persistence in challenging for the ball. He joined Forest Green Rovers from fellow Conference side Tamworth having won promotion to Nationwide Division Two previously before with Gloucestershire side Cheltenham.
He signed for Cheltenham Town from Swansea City and was less than prolific in his first season, but his 2nd year with the club proved to be a revelation. His partnership with Tony Naylor led to Alsop scoring 26 goals, including the second goal as Cheltenham Town beat Rushden and Diamonds 3-1 in the Division 3 play-off final. His third and final season with the club was beset by injuries and he left Cheltenham Town for Oxford United at the end of 2002-03.
He left Oxford United after some controversy with a youth team player and was banned from football for 6 months, signing for Forest Green Rovers when the ban was over.
Other clubs include Halesowen, Oxford United, Northampton Town, Swansea City and Bristol Rovers. He was born in Nuneaton and in 1998 transferred to Swansea City for £30,000 immediately following a loan deal.
