Juken Nissho

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Juken Nissho is a Japanese owned, New Zealand based manufacurer and supplier of engineered wood products such as particle boards Radiata veneer and lumber. It operates plants at Kaitaia, Masterton and Gisborne and employs around 1,000 New Zealanders, largely as low paid, semi-skilled laborers.

Junken Nissho states it has invested over $600 million New Zealand dollars in the country, but has been criticized for alleged pollution and for disregard of employees and for the funding arrangement by which it "invests', (it was alleged the Japanses investors founded a limited liability company to buy New Zealand assets using the assets as the only security, without committing any capital or even exposing it to risk).

Junken Nissho won the Roger Award for The Worst Transnational Corporation in New Zealand in 2003.
