Juhani is a Jedi character from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Juhani is a member of the cat-like race, the Cathar, known for their fiery emotions. She feels as though she can't control her emotions, though the player can give her an emotional boost by telling her that she can. The player first meets her as the final trial before the player can join the Jedi order; Juhani has turned to the dark side, believing that she killed her own Master. When first encountered, the player can choose to kill Juhani instead of redeeming her, thus negating her as a member of the player's party.
Juhani's character was originally planned to be called Bastila Shan, and this name is seen on early concept art. However, when the developers decided not to use Vima Sunrider as one of the main characters, the name Bastila Shan was used for the new female human character created to replace Sunrider. The Cathar Jedi was then called Juhani, and this name made it into the final game.
Juhani is portrayed as having a Russian accent, with a cat-like purr to it to emphasise her belonging to the Cathar race. The name "Juhani" itself is a Finnish male first name.
Juhani was the second Jedi to join Revan's Quest in Knights of the Old Republic. once referred to as "that cat lady", Juhani was rescued by light-side Revan on Dantooine for one of his quests to become a Jedi. Juhani was meditating on a dark-side ruin, and it eventually swayed her to the darkness. She ran there after attempting to kill her master Quatra in a training exercise.
[edit] Canonical Light Side Story
Revan rescues Juhani from the Dark Side. This completes Revan's training and brings him closer to the light side of the Force. During the course of the game Revan discovers that Juhani was raised on the planet Taris, where her family encountered discrimination from the human population. Her father was killed by Xor, a soldier who harboured a hatred of the Cathar race after he was injured during the Mandalorian invasion of the Cathar homeworld. Juhani's mother fell ill and died, leaving Juhani liable for her father's debts to the exchange. She was about the be sold into slavery (to Xor) when Revan, at the head of a Jedi army, stopped the slave auction. The intervention of Revan inspired Juhani to train to become a Jedi. During her later travels with the amnesiac Revan she encounters Xor and fights him to a standstill, but Revan stops her from giving in to her hatred, thus helping her to remain on the light side path.
[edit] Dark Side Story
Revan kills Juhani in the ruins. Alternatively, if Revan saves her in the ruins, he can choose to kill her and Jolee Bindo when taking Bastila Shan as his Padawan. During Juhani's events with Xor, Revan has the option of convincing Juhani to give in to her emotion and kill Xor.
[edit] Alternate Male and Female Revan Story
If Revan is female, Juhani may express that she cares for her. It is a difficult part of the game to trigger, but it does exist.
