[edit] George Papadopoulos
I have expanded the part that concerns his activities before the Junta. It might seem POV but the guy was trully up to his neck with conspiracy shit.
Concerning your question of his actions during the Nazi occupation, all I have found you can see in a section I added in the aritcle. I seems that he was not directly involved in a collaborationist battalion. Rather he worked at an administrative post at Patras that collected tax for the Nazis. But his boss at the office, some colonel Kourkoulakos, was the organizer of an "Evzoni Regiment" that is a collaborationist battalion in Patras. So Papadopoulos's involvement is highly possible, though unclear according to my sources.
I think I will further expand the parts of the article concerning the Junta, along with the main junta article itself. The slightly overlaps the other. Any help is welcome!

[edit] The weird symbol
Hi.
I think the stylized گ that youre talking about might be the symbol of the Sepah Pasdaran (The Revolutionary Guards). Though I'd have to see to make sure. Im not sure where to find a symbol. As you can see, even the MOD website is restricted: http://www.mod.ir/ --Zereshk 4 July 2005 15:26 (UTC)

- Dear inclusionistic, faction-disliking, Latin-speaking... salvo honoris titulo wikipedian. As to your mind-changing abilities, I have to admit that I'm quite impressed. It's really a comforting thought that there are still people who are willing to change their mind instead of defending their oppinions mindlessly. I already started thinking that I'm alone here, but I'm quite happy I was wrong. Halibutt July 5, 2005 13:57 (UTC)
[edit] Hellenic Army
The Hellenic Army is right now under a major reorganization program,(about 100 units will dissolve, others will change bases, etc), as long as I find more info I will edit. In the next days I'm also going to write something about the early history of the 19th century. Have a nice day,Odysseas 5 July 2005 05:34 (UTC)
About the reorganization... It's a total mess. The previous minister of defence , 2 years ago, announced that corps I and III are going to dissolve and that the 2nd corp would transform into a rapid force with an objective to be transfered into the Aegean islands in case of war. But the new one, considering that in crissis situation of Greece wouldn't have any reserves in the mainland frond and with the procpective of the arrival of new equiptment (Leopard2,etc), decided not to dissolve any corps. What I know right now is that the 3rd corps is not going to have any force at all serving only as NATO department, its forces, specially the 20th armoured division are going to be transfered to the 4th corps. he is also going to dissolve all those units that have a low gearing and organisation level.
By the way, check History of the Hellenic Navy
About General Trikoupis (not Trikupis) you are not going to find anything about him since he is regarded as one of most incompetent officers in the whole greek military history after he surrenderd to turks in Asia Minor campaign. Hellenic Army really feels ashamed of him. I don't have any info if he was related to the prime ministers, he was commander of the 1st corps.
Did you know that units of Hellenic army have surrenderd twice? Trikoupis in Asia Minor and an other general I can;t remember his name right now in Macedonia to the Germans during ww2. Both didn't had any orders to do so. Only Greek Navy hasn't ever surrendered and there are examples like commander Liaskos who prefered litteraly to commit suicide attacking to the german destroyer that damaged him than to surrender.Odysseas 6 July 2005 21:11 (UTC)

[edit] Just a Hello
- Happy belated Fourth! I just kind of stumbled in to say 'Hi!'. I saw your inquiry on 'Missing Movement' while letting Philip Baird Shearer know a re-vote was on 'final' (Talk:Tsushima Islands if you're curious), but as history brought me to Wiki, it seems we make a pair of Americans with at least two common interests. I wrote the UCMJ into the following. See if you can add anything in what I call a 'fly-by edit' to Military, which was a stubb itself not too long ago. That nasty British fellow that nominated your indian matron for deletion had to beg an explaination of CFO and CPA from me tonight, so he's not as sharp as he might be, and if you follow the W:VfD pages at all, you got off pretty well. (At least he had the integrity to change his vote for you!)
- I'm trying (hoping) to find enough research time to save Manchurian Railway from an unkind merger; I created it as my sources mentioned it over and over (I'm working the Russo-Japanese War in a big expansion) only to stumble across the China Far East Railway as I closed the edit, which inherited the tracks, and none of the history I'm focused on. So I self-nominated the merge, just out of 'intellectual honesty', while looking for scraps of information so I can transform it into a focused period history article. So, I guess I'm also an inclusionist at heart! LOL.
- Well enough socializing... If I can help you track down a reference feel free to ask, we have an excellent library network up here in New England, and Boston's only a short hop skip and a jump away (The important one, not that English place that abrupt Mel Etitis fellow is from <G> (He's actually a good egg, for a limey! Even defended the President a few weeks back from some tribe of Vandals<G>) and helped me test a self-distructing talk page this evening. We've shared some battles in a flame war.) across the big pond.
- On the references, I'd suggest email, fabartus@comcast.net will get me, and I'll email this if you're accepting via Wiki. FrankB 7 July 2005 01:35 (UTC)

[edit] Fürstenberg
To be honest, my information on Fürstenberg (and many other German states for that matter) is lacking. With a bit of work, I can often dig up information such as locations, territories, ruler lists and so forth, but struggle to find deeper information such as important members of the families and so forth. Hence why most of my articles are stubbed :) I don't know if the two lines still exist although I think they might. Disambiguation pages created on the German states which have been co-ordinated on include: Salm and Isenburg (though I am not happy with them). I would like to co-ordinate articles on states, though I don't know how useful I'd be. - Nomadic1 7 July 2005 09:04 (UTC)
[edit] Rebetiko
Why did you revert my wikification of hyphens to en- and em-rules, my making the list of names consistent, my correction of the external links, etc.? And why did you delete the clarification that rembetiko is urban Greek music? The edit summary "same reason" is unhelpful to say the least. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 7 July 2005 13:12 (UTC)
- That's OK — I know the feeling. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 7 July 2005 15:52 (UTC)
- Damn, pardon, but Mel is busy! Just saw your vote of support on Talk:Manchurian Railway! Thanks, but aren't you afeared the mergests will oppose simply because you issued the first battle cry? Got me chuckling, that's worth something! FrankB 8 July 2005 21:26 (UTC)

[edit] Bacheh
Bacheh only means "child" (or "kid") and there are no secondary or idiomatic meanings attached to the word. AFAIK, there is no Persian equivalent for "catamite" though I could be wrong. But bacheh has no connection to that. Haiduc is a confused POV warrior obsessed with pederasty (and who apparently thinks it was common in Iran, despite there literally being no historical evidence). See kocek for an example - he's put up an image from Chehel Sotoun, describing the dancers (who are clearly female) as being male "koceks," despite the fact that there is no evidence of such people in the Persian court. Apparently he is under the hugely mistaken impression that the Safavids and the Ottomans were of the same background (i.e. that there is no difference between Azeris and Turks). There were, for example, eunuchs in the Safavid court assigned to guard the harem (castrated so as not to make any advances towards the multitudes of women there), and perhaps he is confusing them with so-called "koceks." Thanks for making me aware of this "bacheh" issue. SouthernComfort 9 July 2005 06:33 (UTC)
[edit] Spilios Spiliotopoulos
There's a ban on covering Mr. Spilios Spiliotopoulos by the Journalists Union in Greece. Mr. Spilitopoulos has instituted, for the first time in 40 years, the escort of Ministry-of-defence-certified journalists by MPs, when in the bulding of the Ministry. You'll think, yeah, that's not a bad, thing, and that would be true, if Mr. Spiliotopoulos wasn't doing that selectively, with the puprose of plugging "leaks" from within the ministry, and not allowing the journalists see which of the weapons dealers are running around rampand inside the building. Mr. Spiliotopoulos (as all his predecessors ever sine 1980) is more interested in silencing people that fixing the problems within his ministry.
So, I'll have to ask you to respect that ban and not publish any more information about Mr Spiliotopoulos. Thanks :)

[edit] Iran pages
I think they look great, though I think the noticeboard would be better off without that godforsaken symbol of the Islamic Republic (yes, I know, very POV of me to say so!). ;) Thanks for putting them together. BTW, do you know anything about a certain people in Afghanistan/Pakistan who are of Greek-Persian descent (from Alexander's army) and who still seem to practice the ancient Hellenic religion (I know they definitely aren't Muslim or Christian)? I used to have several Hellenic pagan journals from Greece (interesting movement there) that discussed their origins and current way of life and so forth, but don't have them anymore unfortunately. I've been trying to track such information down again, but to no avail. I don't think WP currently has any info about them. SouthernComfort 12:32, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, the Kalasha - those are the people I was thinking of. I can't believe WP even has an article about them, considering that they are relatively obscure. The journals I had read made a fairly convincing case, and Alexander did get his soldiers to marry Persian women, and it wouldn't be a stretch to think that while some of them assimilated into Persian culture (perhaps even playing a role in the later Parthian dynasty), others decided to Hellenize (or more likely, fuse together elements of both cultures, with the Hellenic perhaps being more dominant). But unfortunately all I know about the Kalasha is what I've read in those journals I mentioned, which were not necessarily neutral (as they were connected with the pagan revival movement in Greece), but the articles were written by academics, one of whom had apparently visited the people and lived with them for awhile.
- The thing with Roman Mithraism, which you mentioned briefly, is that it could not have been connected with Zoroastrianism (at least not very closely), since the Mithraic religion (both Roman and Iranian) was polytheistic, and focused on Mehr/Mithra, rather than on say, Ahura Mazda. On top of which, Roman Mithraism was also completely distinct from the Iranian source - perhaps the only thing both cults shared in common was the god, as the Roman Mithraic mythology and practices had no Iranian origins (except for maybe the incorporation of Zurvan/Kronos and Anahita/Anaitis). So whatever commonalities they both shared were mostly superficial. But the religion and culture of the Kalasha are totally distinct from anyone in the region, and that comparisons with Hellenic religion and culture can be made, it's interesting. I'm not sure the truth can ever be discovered, however, unless they did something like "genetic testing" (which I personally find offensive) as they did between Macedonians and Greeks - though I'm not sure that proves anything exactly either, with so many centuries having passed. Did the Kalasha and Nuristani practice the same religion as well? SouthernComfort 18:01, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Milites Rei Publicae
What can I say, two thumbs up for the idea of a Latin translation. Unfortunately my Latin abilities are somehow limited since I don't speak it very well. At school we had restituta, which I simply despise, so I never learnt it. On the contrary we had Latin classes at my university, but it was too late to learn a decent Latin since I already spoke Spanish at that time (which is a serious problem for me - my Latin is more of a Spanish with mediaeval latin accent...). However, just let me know should you need any help. Halibutt 07:16, July 16, 2005 (UTC)
