Josh Gowling

Joshua (or Josh) Gowling born 29 November 1983 is an English professional footballer currently playing for A.F.C. Bournemouth.

He joint them on a trial basis to begin with in the 2005 close season, and signed a full contract after impressing in various pre-season friendlies. He began the 2005/2006 season in good form before rupturing his knee ligaments after about a minute's play in the away match to Brentford F.C.. This serious injury ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Gowling began his career as a trainee at West Bromwich Albion F.C. under the guidance of Richard O'Kelly, who was Bournemouth's assistant manager until recently.

Following his release from Albion, he signed for Danish Premier Division club Herfølge Boldklub, making 8 appearances in the 2004-2005. He soon became disillusioned with life in Denmark, and returned to England, which is when he applied for a trial at the Cherries.

Having gradually returned to full fitness following his horror injury, Gowling should be raring to go in the upcoming 2006-2007 season.

He is often jokingly referred to by Bournemouth fans as "Rio", due to his visual likeness to the Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand.
