Joseph Woodland

Joseph Woodland is best known as the inventor of the barcode, for which he received US Patent 2,612,994 in October of 1952[1].

He worked for The Manhattan Project before joining IBM. In 1993 he was awarded the National Medal of Technology from President George H. W. Bush[2].

Woodland has a bachelors degree from Drexel University and a masters degree from Syracuse University.
