Joseph McDowell (General)

Joseph McDowell (February 25, 1758–March 7, 1799) was an American lawyer, soldier, and statesman from Morganton, North Carolina. His estate was named Pleasant Gardens. He was a general of the state's militia during the Revolutionary War, and later served in the U.S. Congress from 1793 to 1795. He died on March 7, 1799 on his estate in Burke County, North Carolina. His cousin, Joseph McDowell also served in the Congress.
