Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Generating Station

The Joseph M. Farley twin unit nuclear power station is located near Dothan, Alabama. Its 1,850 acre (7.4 km²) site in Houston County, Alabama is largely wooded and agricultural.
This plant has two Westinghouse pressurized water reactors.
- Unit 1 833 megawatts
- Unit 2 842 megawatts
Construction of the plant began in 1970. Unit 1 achieved commercial operation in December 1977. Unit 2 began commercial operation in July 1981. The total cost of the plant was about $1.57 billion.
Operated by Southern Nuclear Operation Company, the plant is owned by the Alabama Power Company (a subsidiary of Southern Company) and is named in honor of the company's first president and the former CEO of Southern Nuclear Operating Company.
Unit 1 was shut down briefly after experiencing a control rod problem but was restarted on June 22, 2005.
