Joseon Sangosa was written by Sin Chaeho, and describes the ancient history of Korea. It contains the history from Gojoseon to the destruction of Baekje. He published the book serially in the Chosun Ilbo from 1931. After that, it was published as a separate volume in 1948. This book has eleven chapters and its outline is as follows.

[edit] Chapter 1. Introduction

This chapter describes the definition of history and the extent of Korean history. The book also insists that it should be very careful to select a true history book and a fabricated history book. Moreover, he defined history as the struggling time between what ours are and what ours are not.

[edit] Chapter 2. The Era of Dangun

Chapter 2 describes the history of Gojoseon. In this chapter, three confederacies are described that the Gojoseon was union of three confederacies of Majoseon, Jijoseon and Beonjoseon. He also insists that the descendant of Gija became a king of Beonjoseon around 323BCE even though Gija came to Gojoseon around 1100BCE. So, he did not explain about Gija joseon, but describe that the descendant of Gija became a king of one of the confederacies in Gojoseon at 323BCE.

[edit] Chapter 3. The Era of Disintegration of Three Gojoseon

Chapter 3 describes about the disintegration of Three Gojoseon. The book says that Gojoseon's controlling power to theri confederacies were lost when the desceandant of Gija became a king of Beonjoseon, and Yan had attacked the Gojoseon. Hwandan gogi says that Haemosu became a king of Jinjoseon and established Buyeo.
This book also describe that Wiman Joseon were succeeded by usurpation of Beonjoseon. Therefore, Wiman Joseon was limited to the Liaoning area, and Jinjoseon was succeeded by Buyeo.

[edit] Chapter 4. The Era of Several States

Chapter 4 describes the several states after Gojoseon was destroyed.
He describes that

  • Jijoseon was succeeded by three Buyeo such as north Buyeo, east Buyeo and south Buyeo.
  • Beonjoseon was succeeded by Chinese four commanderies and Nangnang nation.
  • Majoseon was already described in Chapter 3 that Majoseon was conquered by the last king of Beonjoseon when he fled against Wiman.

Goguryeo also sprung up at this age from east Buyeo, and was founded by Choomo. After that, Goguryeo annexed most of states at Manchuria. In addition, Baekje was established by two son-in-laws of Chumo.

[edit] Chapter 5. The Era of Goguryeo

Chapter 5 describes the era of Goguryeo at its height of prosperity such as Taejo and Chadae. At their reign years, ancient territory of Gojoseon was restored such as Liaoning.
