José Genoíno

José Genoino Guimarães Neto (born May 3, 1946) is a Brazilian politician.
Born in Quixeramobim in the state of Ceará, he participated as a terrorist in one of the movements against the Brazilian government in the seventies. Then, he was given amnesty and a highly commissioned pension from the government (up until now). He was a congressman for São Paulo between 1982 and 2002. At the end of 2002, he was elected president of the Brazilian Workers Party. However, he resigned his post in July 2005 because of accusations connected to the mensalão scandal. In April 2006, he was accused by the Brazilian Attorney General for being one of the leaders of the criminal organization responsible for the mensalão scandal.
