Nice thing you did there, dude. Thanks ;) -Imperator 18:45, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess?

I'm in a way quite embarrassed, as I like to think of myself as avidly following every little Zelda 2005 leak and update, but this is the first time I've heard this name!

However, I am unable to find any Googles for this name. Where did this image come from? I'm interested in both the name of the mag and any forum thread(s) you know of that talk about this!

Thanks a million! Master Thief Garrett 02:11, 14 May 2005 (UTC)

The image was originally from a French site and was later posted in Gaming Age, although I actually found the scan from The Next Level.
http://www.ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=47190&page=1&pp=50
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/showthread.php?t=36397
For some reason , the site doesn't mention the source (judging by the fonts, it looks like EGM). Anyway, I lot of the other games on the list has been confirmed (since they've been registed by Nintendo). I heard Twilight Princess is possibly a translation of the Japanese title (although, I seriously doubt that). Jonny2x4 03:01, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
TSA the Zelda-god has just given his judgement on it. According to hex-editor examination of the image, it originated in Photoshop. So in the meantime I'm afraid I'll have to revert it. Sorry. Master Thief Garrett 03:13, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
That's alright. It's good to have doubts, but I'm 99% sure it's real (regardless of how you feel about TSA being a "Zelda God"). Pokemon XD is not a smiley, but the actual title of the new Pokemon game that was shown on CoroCoro Comics. The inclusion of Donkey Konga 2 and Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones as part of Nintendo's 2006 lineup isn't unusual, since many companies consider games released in a present year to be part of their next year's lineup. Metroid: Dread isn't any more ridiculous sounding for a Metroid title than Metroid: Fusion or Super Metroid. Hell, it's alot less ridiculous than the new Metroid Pinball title they announced awhile ago. That's my two cents.Jonny2x4 03:33, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
That, and Metal Gear Acid, and Sonic on GBA, and Shadow the Hedgehog with a gun, and... hehehe... but further into the topic, TSA says this: "Sorry, somebody bought the [I think it was supposed to be the May Game Informer] issue, it's not in there, it's fake. It's an EGM template with an existing screen and EGM font. Pretty easy photo job. Nice try to the guy/girl who made it." So, um, yeah. It's a shame, but, apparently, not true at all. Darn. Master Thief Garrett 04:09, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
Told you it wasn't a hoax! This also happened when I was arguing to people about the authenticity of the MGS3 casting sheet. Jonny2x4 20:16, 17 May 2005 (UTC) :p

[edit] Campbell's not dead

You obviously didn't read what I added to the article concering Roy Campbell. I said Hal Emmerich tells Raiden that Campbell was found dead in his home prior to MGS2. You need to learn how to read, jeeze.

Yes, I know what you added and that doesn't make it right. What you need to do is pay attention to the actual games before modifying an existing article. Otacon never said that Campbell was dead in MGS2, only that Raiden's "Colonel" was a fake. You're probably confusing Master Miller's death in MGS1 , with Campbell's (who's death has never been confirmed, if he really died) . I recommend that you check the following transcript of the game's dialogue (or better yet, play the game itself) and see for yourself. http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/metal_gear_solid_2_script.txt
I concur with this. Otacon never says Campdell died. I remember it well. --Kiyosuki 18:56, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Genome Soldier

Hey, thanks for writing a good article for the Genome Soldier. I would've replayed through the game, but I haven't had enough time for that in a while. It's good and I give you a thumbs up. Thanks again. --Useless Fodder 02:54, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. I recently played through the original not so long ago and some of the info was still fresh in my mind. I had to relied a bit on transcripts and text dumps of the game though (especially the "In the Shadow of Shadow Moses" short story, since it's the only source which reveals the final fate of the Genome Army.) Jonny2x4 00:28, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Concerning an Edit to List of Metal Gear Characters

I'm not really on the up and up on the extra-special exclusive news items, but I thought those names were canon and legit. If you've got proof to the contrary, fine; but if not could you change the article back? Thank you. --FDIS 04:28, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

You're pretty gullible in that case. Likewise, I ask the same for you, only opposite. It's easy to say cite your source as an "interview with Famitsu", but if you don't provide the exact magazine (Famitsu has five different incarnations in publication, including Weekly Famitsu and Famitsu PS2) or issue number, then there's really no credibility to your statement. Don't you think that if Kojima ever did assigned any "real names" to the characters, wouldn't it be more readily available? Jonny2x4 04:49, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
Oh, sorry for the confusion. I never wrote the names and "sources". I just wasn't sure if they were real or not, but I didn't feel like researching it. --FDIS 06:02, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] MGS Characters

I would be bold myself and change it but i dont have the neccesary of knowledge. We both know each character should have a seperate page and it might as well jsut be done, as discussion regarding the change is not getting us anywhere. collecting all those characters together is not far from creating a single page listening every game in existence and removing htere individual pages. Just rememeber the fifth pillar of wikipedia! --The Pain 13:15, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply. I've been busy improving some of the Resident Evil articles, that I forgot about this. Anyway, I already Liquid and Solidus their own pages at least. Should start with the rest soon. Jonny2x4 02:29, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
Ack, please don't split out Liquid and Solidus without mentioning it as part of the ongoing discussion at Talk:List of Metal Gear characters first. Liquid Snake in particular isn't so long it needs to be split, and the extra context in a relevant list helps.
Anyway, are you sure splitting by unit instead of just by game is a good idea? Seems like most of the games (MGS in particular) don't have so many characters that you need separate, smaller lists for the super-units. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 02:45, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
Yeah! Sorry I didn't warm you beforehand. I'll provide my motives in the discussion page. Jonny2x4 02:52, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
No problem about the warning, I just think my way is going to be better. ;D We're on the same page here, just different paragraphs. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 02:53, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
Got another proposal at Talk:List of Metal Gear characters, explaining a little bit better. If we're doing multiple lists, I really, really don't want a catchall list that covers characters who don't appear in more than one game. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 04:02, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

I replied to your comment on my talk page. (And just as as I opened this page, David Hayter appeared on this TV show I'm watching. Hah.) - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 20:20, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Capcom

I've blocked Capsom for 24 hours, and warned him that next time he'll be blocked indefinitely for the user name. Can you alert me if that next time should happen? --Maru (talk) Contribs 07:25, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

No problem at all. I'll let you know if he does anything to the page next time. The content that he (and some other user) has been adding is nothing more than blantant fan fiction, which is why I reported him. Jonny2x4 07:33, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
He did it again! I think it's time to ban him! Jonny2x4 07:45, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] WTF..?

May I ask what the hell you were thinking when you made the eroneous comment of "Another case of the "player is the reader" writing syndrome"..? That was completly uncalled for, and when you make an edit to a page just say what you did, not make a comment about a writer's ability. When I first made the article Warzard, I had no doubt it would be edited upon, but I didn't expect (nor appreciate) comments like this. Thanks. However, on the other hand, I do thank you for merging the charcter pages I made with the article, its more economical, and makes more sense ( when i first made them, i thought there'd be more info to write on them, but...Warzard is pretty obsucre...so..). -MegamanZero 8:48 23, November 2005 (UTC)

And what's this..?!.. Why did you take out the screenshot caption.? Please explain your "reasoning" for that action, in the meanwhile, I'm putting it back on the page. -MegamanZero 8:50 23, November 2005 (UTC)

When describing the gameplay of a video game, do not use the term "you" when referring to what the player does in the game. You're not writing for a video game site, so don't assume that everyone who is looking for information about a game in wikipedia is going to automatically play it. This is covered in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Computer_and_video_games#Style. The reason why I made that comment is because it's a common writing flaw among new users and was not meant to be taken as a specific criticism about your writing style (to be honest, I don't really know or care who you are).

As for the removal of the screenshots, that was an accident on my part. You can feel free to add it back in, although I would recommend a single screenshot of the game over a collage as it is. It's more convenient that way. Jonny2x4 13:53, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

No harm done =). I just thought that was a bit harsh, considering...but like I said, I knew people would edit(In fact that's what I wanted) the article and improve its quality. I usually don't write in that style, but it was late at night, and well..I just wanted the article up. Regradless, my forte' in wikipedia is usually to make articles, then I step aside and let people perfect them; such is the case with my fellow user Wolf O Donnel and the various megaman articles I've constructed.-MegamanZero 18:08 24, November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

.....For fixing my mistakes on my Choi and Chang articles. I always get KOF and FF mixed up. Also thanks for coming to a comprimise on the Mai page, with the pics and all.-MegamanZero 20:52 26, November 2005 (UTC)

Also, I'm curious...did you get your user name from Ed, Edd, and Eddy'..?-MegamanZero 21:11 26, November 2005 (UTC)
I appreciate the feedback. The name was something random I remembered when I decided to come up with a username here. I believe I did indeed take the name from the Ed, Edd and Eddy character, but it really wasn't a factor of using it here. I just liked the sound of it. Jonny2x4 16:10, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] MGS4 images

why did you change the images back? --NeverLogic 02:44, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

By MGS4 images, I'm assuming you mean the images in the MGS3 character article. I have a few reasons. First of all, I personally don't like using images that are ripped straight from official sites, especially when one can find a higher quality version of the same image from press kits. It seems a bit unprofessional in my opinion and I prefer to do it when there's no other alternatives. I did changed the illustrations back to renders though, since that was your reasoning for the change. Secondly, JPGs are much better for illustrations and renders that GIFs, especially since alot of these images were originally distributed in JPG format. Just compare the GIF renders you uploaded with the JPG renders that were previously here. There's really no contest. And finally, I think composite images are really redundant here, when they're basically different interpretations of the same idea.
Those are my main reasons. I'll probably let others decide in the Talk page though. Jonny2x4 03:00, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] mgs3 images

would you please explain to me that after the discussion on the talk page for mgs3 characters you still changed the pictures and altered my comment? the talk page clearly shows the democratic decision about an asthetic opinion. please be civil. Solidusspriggan 11:12, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image placement vote

Hello, it's MegamanZero, and I've gotten into a conflict with the Orgy over his needless image placement and excessive quotes on the Iori Yagami page. So, I've decided to hold a vote (like on the Ryu charaacter page) concerning which version should be used. The vote can be found here. Please vote your opinion on the matter and thanks for your time! -MegamanZero 18:01, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] DARPA

Ok then, but the ARPA reffrence of Sigint is defintiely hintiong something. -- 20:17, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

No, it isn't. Don't assume too much just because they're from the same race and same organization (I'm pretty sure there's alot of African-Americans working for the real DARPA). You're entering the region of fanwankery. Perhaps you might want to take time reading WikiProject Computer and video games. Speculations on the fictional content of games is discouraged by them (and myself as well). Jonny2x4 20:41, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Resident Evil

I noticed that you showed interest in editing the Resident Evil article. Would you mind helping me with completing the article's to do list and promoting the article to featured status? Morgan695 05:04, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

I suggest adding a gameplay section detailing the various additions made to the engine over the years (we could two or more subsections, one covering RE1-3+CV and the other cover post-RE4 games). Also the Story section could use a bit of expanding. Jonny2x4 06:13, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Good idea. To promote this to featured status, we need to expand the lead, expand on the games impact (I already did the a section on reviews - feel free to expand on it as you see fit - but an influence on gaming and sales figures section are still needed) and add a section on the evolution of the franchise (your engine suggestion could go in this category). Morgan695 18:24, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Re Series Template!

It looked much cleaner with the previous format! The template now looks messy and hideous with that ugly diareha colour. Any ideas how to change it? Empty2005 00:01, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I preferred the previous format, since it looked much closer to other video game series infoboxes (such as Template: Metal Gear series and Template:Mortal Kombat series), giving it a more uniform appearance. Anyway. The first change I made was moved the game characters to the list over movie characters. Resident Evil is a video game series first and a movie series later. Also, I ordered the character list based more or less on how they're ordered in the Archives. Jonny2x4 22:38, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Fair enough then! Empty2005 02:28, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Resident Evil 3 - Tyrell Patrick

I would like to know how making the 'Tyrell Patrick' article smaller because he is a minor character contributes to Wikipedia in your perspective. I understand that Tyrell Patrick is not an important character in the overall series, but wiping his personal article out and merging it with the already far too large 'List of Resident Evil characters' page doesn't seem like an overly productive idea to me. If you don't like the size of the article, why not simply avoid reading it? The idea is to make Wikipedia as comprehensive as possible, deleting information is not in an encyclopedia's best interests, and moving the entire 'Tyrell Patrick' article onto the main page, as far as I'm concerned, isn't even an option. I specifically created his personal article because it was too large to fit on the main page. Not meaning to start a fight here, but it's more than a little annoying when somebody suggests wiping out a page that I created, especially considering it took me quite some time to scrounge up information on this character that would probably otherwise have gone unknown if I hadn't. Gamer Junkie 18:07, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Not even an explanation for your actions. How very thoughtful of you. It's good to see you left it open for discussion so long, since it was only the two of us that actually had an input, I suppose that somehow means your opinion is more important than mine, right? If you're gonna be an arsehole, chop half the page and redirect to another article, at least have the decency to explain yourself better than 'This character doesn't deserve an article'. Gamer Junkie 01:18, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

I did provide an explanation for my action. For some reason, I forgot to post it past preview and I apologize for that. Please read Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) to understand my actions. To put it simply: Tyrell Patrick is a very non-notable character who only appears for a few second in the entire game and his backstory is only interesting to fans of the game (as opposed to major characters like Leon, Wesker and Jill to name a few, who are prominent enough for non-gaming readers to be interested about them and transcend their original work). It's all in the name of reducing Fancruft as much as possible. Jonny2x4 05:58, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Phoenix Wright.

There has never been any precedence to hold a remake or port as more notable than the original, regardless of the fact that they are more recognizable. Should Pokémon Emerald be a redirect? Or Resident Evil (GameCube)? Or Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land? - A Link to the Past (talk) 06:00, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Well there's a huge difference in this case. We're not just talking about mere ports here, we're talking about the English localizations of said games. Since this is the ENGLISH Wikipedia (and not Japanese), it's better to use the title/version that a casual reader would be familiar with than the Japanese original only few will recognize. Not everyone is a videogame playing fanboy. Also, a lot of those remakes you've mentioned aren't really real remakes at all. They're just upgraded ports with incremental features. Most of the time, we just note the differences between the original and said upgrade in one article. Phoenix Wright/Gyakuten Saiban DS falls into this category. Also, seeing the Gyakuten Saiban articles being nothing but a gallery of boxshots seems too much of a waste. Besides, isn't Phoenix Wright being released for Mobile Phones? Jonny2x4 06:43, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
    • A localization? If it were intended to be merely a localization, it would have not been released in Japan. It is a remake, just like Resident Evil. And if you honestly believe in what you are saying, then move Das Boot to The Boat, its English title. I repeat, there has never been any precedence to turn the original game, movie or book into a redirect to a remake of said game, movie or book, localization or otherwise. PWAA should be the redirect, as it is not the original. As for the remakes that I mentioned, RE is "70% remade", including visuals, new modes, new enemies, new weapons and new sequences. Emerald also added a whole new area, the Battle Frontier, with tons of modes. It also adds moving in battle and the cell phone. Also, lack of content is not an argument for deletion/merge/redirect. As for the cell phone game, that was supposedly a port of a remake, and turned out to be all new cases available for download. - A Link to the Past (talk) 22:37, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
      • Das Boot was released in English under that title, sorry. (Hope you don't mind me butting in, J2x4.) Is there a reason this conversation isn't being carried out on the talk page of the article in question? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 22:56, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi. Did anyone see the most recent episode of Seinfield...? The chaps are always getting into nonsense. Lovely television show. -ZeroTalk 23:05, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Solid Snake

I rewrote Solid Snake, and, while it's not perfect, it's pretty much what I was hoping the MG character articles could look like. Since you're one of the major MG editors, I thought you might want to take a look at it. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:31, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

It's alright so far. But I think the information about Snake's Revenge and Ghost Babel needs to be covered seperately from the the main History section. It might confuse readers unfamiliar with the canon. Also some parts reads more like a development history of the series in general, rather than the character himself.Jonny2x4 03:39, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia isn't here to document the canon. Wikipedia is here to document the real world. There's a great tendency to pretend the non-canon games don't exist, or marginalize them; I don't really think we're here to tell the fictional life history of these characters, but instead describe their role in the real world. WP:WAF goes over why we should do this. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:54, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
I disagree. The James Bond and Star Wars articles cover their films primarily on their canonical revelance, followed by non-canonical elements. I don't see why it has to be different for Solid Snake. Jonny2x4 04:11, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Take a look at some of the featured articles. Captain Marvel (DC comics) was the template I used for this article, and that's a character with as many non-canon offshots as this one.
I don't know about the Bond articles, but one of the weaknesses of the Star Wars articles is that they focus on the fictional chronology to the exclusion of real-world context. Emperor's Hand highlights the problems with this approach; by focusing on the canon, it loses focus on the real-world context, like where the Hands were first introduced and who introduced them, how the term has changed and been refined, and such. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:21, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Please, stop! I put a lot of effort into trying to make that page not just another fanpage retelling the story of the games, and you're reverting without comment. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:40, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm not treating this as a fan-page. I'm still keeping the realistic POV (as opposed to the in-universe POV) you wanted, which was your primary reason for the major editing.
Let me explain, Snake's Revenge was essentially a pastiche, while Ghost Babel and MGA1+2 were made with them being set parallel universes in mind or Elseworlds if you will. A better template would be the Batman. The character biography covers only the mainstream continuity (Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis). It doesn't mention works like The Dark Knight Returns (which is an influential Batman book, albeit non-canonical). Jonny2x4 04:45, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Batman is an excellent example. In that article, non-canon stories are handled as part of a real-world chronology. (For example, look at where Dark Knight Returns is covered.) That's the kind of article I'm trying to make. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:48, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Let's discuss this on Talk:Solid Snake. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:54, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Bad example. Perhaps I should've mentioned a Marvel article like Wolvering or Captain America. I see Ghost Babel and the MGA series as "Ultimate" versions of the Metal Gear series and see no reason to mix them up with the regular series. Jonny2x4 04:56, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Those aren't featured articles, with good reason. Can we please discuss this on Talk:Solid Snake? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 05:02, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Why are you reverting Image:MGS4 Snake.jpg without any comment anywhere? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 13:31, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

You are up to your fourth revert on Image:MGS4 Snake.jpg, without a single word of explanation. What's going on? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | pastops) 13:33, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I just asking why can't we just stick to the full version of the render? None of the other images in the Solid Snake article are cropped and I don't see any reason this has to be different. Jonny2x4 13:35, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
See Image talk:MGS4 Snake.jpg. It had actually been changed to a screenshot when you reverted it the second and third and fourth times. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 13:37, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] MGS3 sketches

You have an uncanny knack for fining kick-ass images, can you get us some character sketches for the MGS3 Characters page?

†he Bread 06:03, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

It's been awhile since I've seen the MGS3 character list, but what the hell happened to all those renders that were uploaded? Jonny2x4 07:40, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Steel took them down and AMIB is going on about layout, and fair use #3. I don't think they flunked it but sketches definately won't plus it will keep with the rest of the lists
†he Bread 22:01, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
The only artworks I have are the black & white illustrations Shinkawa that Konami published in MGS3: The Countdown. The article originally had them, but were changed to renders because they were in color. Jonny2x4 01:50, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
I'd personally want them, plus B&W is better than nothing

Hey Jonny, where'd you get those sketches from?
†he Bread 03:02, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 12:22, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
