Jolie Gabor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jolie Gabor (September 29, 1896 - April 1, 1997) was born Janka Tilleman (her nickname "Jancsi" means Johnny in English—her parents wanted a boy) in Budapest, Austro-Hungarian Empire. She is best known as "Mama Jolie", the mother of Magda Gabor, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Eva Gabor, who were famous for their beauty and many marriages.
Jolie officially claimed to have been born in 1900, and gave that year to the U.S. Social Security Administration, but her first child, Magda, was born in 1914.
After Jolie's death, gossip/society columnist Cindy Adams (who had written a book about Jolie) wrote that Jolie had been 102 at the time of her death. Thus the year 1894 came into play. According to researcher Piet Hein Honig, Jolie's Budapest birth certificate tells that she was actually born in 1896; she was going on 18 when her eldest was born. The Gabor ladies have always been very secretive about their ages.
Jolie's only grandchild is Zsa Zsa's daughter, Francesca Hilton.
[edit] Husbands
Jolie was married three times:
- Vilmos Gabor, Hungarian soldier, father of her three daughters (1914-1939)
- Peter Howard Christman (1947-1948)
- Count Edmund "Odon" de Szigethy (1957-1989, his death)
