Joi Cardwell

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joi Cardwell is a female African American dance music singer and songwriter from Brooklyn New York. She has had major success on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, where she placed eight songs in the top ten between 1995 and 2000. Two of her songs hit number one: "You Got to Pray" in 1996 and "Run to You" in 1997. She also lends her vocals to the works of other artists, most notably former Deee-Lite producer Towa Tei ("Luv Connection"), and Brooklyn Funk Essentials. After releasing "The World is Full of Trouble" and a self-titled album with Eightball, Cardwell left the label and released her third album Deliverance on NoMad Records in 1999. Her recent musical output includes the Plain Jane Project, available for preview on her website.
