[edit] My user and talk page policies

I have noted that a few other Wikipedians have started posting such disclaimers, and I feel that I must as well, as my user page and talk page have been vandalized at various times.

  1. Vandalism will be reverted on sight. Period.
  2. Personal attacks will not be tolerated and will be reported on sight. Period.
  3. Defamatory statements will be removed AND reported on sight. Period.

I have read over MANY of the primary Wikipedia policies, and I do ask that other editors do the same, even newbies. I CAN AND WILL UPHOLD THEM.

Signed,
John D. Buell

[edit] Talk page archives

Due to length, I have begun to archive messages on my talk page. Please do not leave new messages on any such pages.

  • /Archive01 - Covering 1 April 2005 to 11 March 2006
  • /Archive02 - Covering 12 March 2006 to 29 October 2006

[edit] Googol/Google

Googleplex reference: I have a signed copy of the original paperback Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the word is there on page 127. Briantist 22:22, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

  • A search-engine related reference (from the first book, 1979, Chapter 25, page 127) when Lunkwill and Fook are shocked at Deep Thought's self-depreciation: "And are you not," said Fook leaning anxiously forward, "a greater analyst than the Googleplex Star Thinker in the Seventh Galaxy of Light and Ingenuity which can calculate the trajectory of every single dust particle throughout a five-week Dangrabad Beta sand blizzard?" (Note the spelling is the same as Google, not the number googol).

Clearly it is a reference to the fact that Google took their word, perhaps unwittingly, from the book, not the other way round!!

I have restored the referenece as it is already on the Googleplex page. Briantist 23:47, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flamerion

It's well documented that Douglas Adams spent time in Greece playing his guitar in bars to earn money for his travels.

[edit] My apologies

John, I' am sorry about that small article I wrote about Mercury at WVHS. I' am not Waubonsie's enemy Neuqua or trying to vandalize pages or anything like that it's just that the Mercury incident really happened and I thought I should post events like that but now I see that I shouldn't post stuff about just some small things like that on articles so anyway I just wanted to let you know I'm sorry and for continuing to post it on the WVHS page. -Paul Ittoop 10:22 4 November 2006 (UTC)

You won't be able to find it in the Media or any reference. I knew because I go to this school as mentioned in my User Page. -Paul Ittoop 1:17 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Minor characters from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Thanks for cleaning up my links on this page. Briantist 03:08, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

I have an old list to check it against if you're feeling in the mood. I'm busy tomorrow, so I'll have a look at it later...

[snip!]

Much of that stuff is in the "Ultra-Complete Index" which I think is on Wikibooks now. The main articles here are the Minor characters page and Races and Species in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. --JohnDBuell 03:15, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
I'll cross reference the list with the Minor Characters page Briantist 13:08, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
And I might be able to grab all my Hitch Hiker's reference books today too! Briantist 13:10, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] fark.com: ultrafark

i noticed you reverted someone's submission of ultrafark, citing redundancy, when there is no other reference to ultrafark in the article. i don't quite understand your reasoning for this. --emerson7 02:01, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

why? because it's an on-going joke, and part of the lore. i don't know if you visit the site or not, but ultrafark is always being referenced in the threads. though not very well written, the inclusion of ultrafark is a valid submission. --emerson7 03:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
cool, while i agree with your reasoning wholeheartedly, i think a revert is a bit draconian. anyway, thanks for the chat and the time. cheers! --emerson7 04:16, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question

Did you realize you deleted BlueValour's comments on the Talk:Reading program? Why did you edit his comments? Are you User:BlueValour too? – Chris53516 (Talk) 18:40, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

No, and that's odd - I should have received an edit conflict message. --JohnDBuell 18:42, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Douglas Adams Template:Ambiguous link

Hello JohnDBuell. I noticed you edited the page Douglas Adams to improve the ambiguous links to Cambridge, England, and accordingly removed the Template:Ambiguous link tags. The Template:Ambiguous link tag is in fact a new one which I am thinking of. I would be interested to hear any comments you had on Template:Ambiguous link. My comments are at Wikipedia talk:Disambiguation#Ambiguous link marking. Thanks, Duckbill 20:29, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Award

The Original Barnstar
Your work with fighting vandalism here on Wikipedia is worthy of note, but this is for your continued exellence on this site, mostly with the History of the board game Monopoly article. Good job! Sharkface217 00:16, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

You're quite welcome. I'm glad that I helped.... vindicate your effort. Sharkface217 01:18, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Page moves

That was entirely my bad, and I apologize. I was doing mass moves from (TV series) to (television series) and I figured that someone would eventually get around to updating the redirects. Geniac, has just brought to my attention that WP:TV-NAME is being disputed, however; and discussion on the talk page looks like it's going to result in (TV series) being the standard ("(television series) was the standard being used on the page when I referred to it"). I'm really sorry for any inconvenience caused (especially since I've already updated about twenty or so redirects to "television") but I'll try and undo the damage ASAP. -ryand 19:02, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
