'TORGHATTEN IN NORWAY - A MIGHTY CATHEDRAL CREATED BY NATURE'
On the way north along the central coast (geographically) of Norway, you will pass one of the most spectacular attractions in this part of Norway (the municipality of Brønnøysund). The mountain Torghatten with it’s characteristic hole right through it, the hole itself has the following dimensions length: 160 meters, height: 35 meters and width: 20 meters. According to the legend, the hole was created when the horseman shot an arrow at the virgin of the island of Leka. However the king of the municipality of Sømna blocked the arrow with his hat, and saved the virgin. As the hat fell to the ground, the sun rose and everything turn to stone. A more likely explanation is that it was created during the period when Norway was covered by ice and snow. Anyhow it is a mighty cathedral worth visiting. --80.213.45.133 21:56, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)
