John Coxon (born 3 December 1988) is a self-confessed teenager with a tendency to lean towards geekiness. He got himself into this state by reading a well-known book called The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. He used to spell the word hitchhiker with a hyphen, but has since gotten better. Through the aforementioned book, he found ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha and also the newsgroup alt.fan.douglas-adams, and through these he has progressively grown in the world of SF fandom.

[edit] Rise To True Geekdom

His rise to true geekdom arose, many say, with his purchase of a genuine towel for $106. Many others said that this actually marked the beginning of mental illness. His towel is safely folded and kept on a shelf in his room, along with several other pieces of SF memorabilia collected before and between now and then. After spending that amount of money on a towel, he briefly entertained rewriting the afda FAQ before he realised that he really couldn't be bothered to do it. He attended his first SF event, a ZZ9 AGM, in November 2003 in Peterborough, his home town, and began attending events outside Peterborough in 2005, namely the Norwich slouch and 2005 ZZ9 AGM. He entertained the notion of standing for the post of Editor in the 2005 AGM for a time but decided against it, eventually being chosen to fill the post of Secretary. He stood down at the 2006 AGM.

[edit] Beliefs

John believes in God, but also believes that his belief in God is totally and utterly illogical. He believes the same about any belief whatsoever, including a belief in no God (commonly known as atheism). He has no problem with other people's religious beliefs as long as they don't challenge his, and is content with this situation. He believes that such books as those of C.S. Lewis or Philip Pullman don't have to be read as religious commentary but can be read and enjoyed just as stories, and also believes that His Dark Materials isn't atheist, preferring to refer to it as antitheist. As I said, he's one weird person.
