Talk:John Bailey (Irish politician)

[edit] Another move?
Generally speaking, honorifics like 'Councillor' aren't part of an article's title (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people)), but seeing as there are other John Baileys can anyone suggest an alternative title more in keeping with naming guidelines? Perhaps John Bailey (Irish politician) would be appropriate? Ziggurat 22:27, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's the best option. Yanksox 22:28, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] John Bailey
There are several individuals listed as John Bailey, hence the 'Councillor' tag. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Crimson Observer (talk • contribs) .
- Whoops, I see that you replied here while I was posting a message to your talk page! As I noted there, it's generally a bad idea to include titles like 'Councillor' in the title of an article, as such titles have a tendency to change when a politician gains higher office / loses that office, and the titles of articles should aim to be as 'timeless' as possible. John Bailey may be elected to the Dáil Éireann, in which case would the title of the article be changed to Teachta Dála John Bailey or John Bailey, TD? Adding (Irish politician) is more generic, as it's not going to change regardless of his political fortunes. Ziggurat 22:40, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) But the article can be listed as John Bailey (Irish Politican) and then be listed on the disamig page. Not many people will search for Councillor Bailey using his full title. No one would search Tony Blair, George W. Bush, Stephen Harper, or anyone else with the full title. If it's alright with everyone, I will move this article. Yanksox 22:41, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

- I have no objections, but let's see what the original author prefers :) Ziggurat 22:43, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
PaPa A name change to John Bailey (Irish Politician) would be OK. I'm the original author - how can this change be made?
- Don't worry, I'll do it right now. You click the move button. Yanksox 23:03, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

- I also added John Bailey to the disamib page, click here to see. :) Yanksox 23:06, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- I moved it again to John Bailey (Irish politician) (i.e. no caps on 'politician') to keep it consistent with other Irish Fine Gael Party politicians. Ziggurat 00:10, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
